Snowmobiling Weekend

This weekend we spent at Lac Le Jeune, pretty much on the snowmobiles the whole time. On Saturday we went around the trails to some empty cabins across the lake that are free for the public to use

There was so much more snow since the last time we were up there which meant we could go speeding across the lake. Steve got some footage of us on Sunday...

(The one on the right is me, Brendon is on the left, and the camera is on Steve's snowmobile)

We went across the lake up to the old Lac Le Jeune Ski Resort which hasn't been operating for quite a few years, it was shut down and left as is. So the ski field is free range for all the locals to play on.

We went right up to the top of the old ski hill on the snowmobiles, was an awesome view - so high up

We also had a few blasts around the lake on the satellite dish which was good fun. Not that you can really tell with all our gears on but this is Brendon having a spin on the dish

Winter Jacket

Its already well and truely into winter, and I haven't had a winter jacket up until now. I couldn't find one around that I wanted and I figured I should get just one that I really like considering I am living out of a suitcase for awhile...and winter is not forever!!

I finally found one at the thrift store up the road, this is my vintage Ralph Lauren quilted jacket - you all know me for often picking ugly but 'interesting' peices...

Weekend in Steveston

This weekend we bused to Steveston which is a little fishing village on the peninsula about an hour down from Vancouver City. It was a really quaint little town...

On the river mouth there was a boat yard, and all the waterfront restaurants

Along the boardwalk was the old shipyard, and the houses of some of the people who use to live there back in the hey-day

One of the houses was set up with all the old stuff in it - it had the cutest wallpaper..

And of course I found some Steveston ducks

Back in the township was the old cannery - it was the biggest salmon cannery in British Columbia

There was a really cheeky statue outside...

The village had some cutesy little shops and some good op shops but this one was amazing - so many of the clothes were my size which never happens and it was ridiculously cheap. I contained myself and ended up buying two nice tops and a wicked boaty blazer that is one of my best buys in quite awhile

We had a pub dinner on the waterfront at Shadys which had a boat in the ceiling then stayed the night at the Steveston Hotel (the only hotel there) which had a pub downstairs - very handy for a night of drinking and dancing

...And I grabbed a postcard of what it would have actually looked like if we had gone in summer (which im hoping we will have time to do when summer comes around)...

Snow in the City

Last night we went to the neighbours for drinks, and while out it started to snow in Vancouver City! Big snowflakes too!

We all grabbed our jackets and boots and went for a midnight stroll around the block in the snow - it was so much fun, got so drenched by snowballs and the heavy wet snow.

Sadly its starting to melt away this morning so I've run out and taken pictures while everything is still beautifully covered in white.

Vancouver Aquarium

Well the last week or so has mainly been spent looking for a job, so I had little to report on my post. But, yesterday we had a break and decided to go to the Vancouver Aquarium which is in Stanley Park.

First, we stopped into Gastown for some breakfast - found a really cute cafe that served awesome eggs, fruit salad, and coffee called Brioche. The whole of Gastown is so styley - awesome clothes shops, op shops, and cafes (my kind of place).

Then we headed to the aquarium, here are some of my favourite shots of the day:

Out the front of the aquarium with the inuit dolphin statue

Mini jellyfish

Went outside to watch the Beluga Whale show, it was amazing how pure white they were and to actually even see a whale for the first time

Also saw the dolphin show

Other than the miniature ducks (as you all know I like) which were too timid to take pictures of, this was one of my favour birds there - just because they were awesome colours and pretty friendly

Loved this guy! Hes called a monkey treefrog - goes without saying..

This little dolphin came over to check us out and hovered for ages so we managed to get a nice picture which was hard to do for most of the other quick creatures we saw yesterday

New Years Eve in Vancouver City

Well New Years Eve was abit different this year in the cold, especially while we were thinking about everyone in NZ in summertime at the beach, but we had a fun night and was good to see the city at night
Started the night having dinner and margaritas/martinis at The Old Spaghetti Factory

Then heading into the city to one of the main drags that had been coned off for pedestrians, it was packed - did some good 'people watching'

We found a bar on the main strip and had a few Canadian brewed beers and other drinks (they played some NZ music too which was wicked to hear) then headed back out to the streets after the countdown and jumped on the skytrain with hoards of other people back home
